Common Mistakes That Hurt Your Garden

  • Don’t pile it against stems or leaves. Granules that contact stems or foliage can burn tender plant tissue. Keep a gap of at least 4 inches around the base of the plant.

When using organic slow-release fertilizers, do not apply more than 1.5 pounds of actual nitrogen per 1,000 square feet in a single application — exceeding that rate risks burning roots even with natural products.
